- A full moon party group should agree one fixed meeting point and one fixed meeting time before reaching the beach, because phones and signal fail on a crowd of around 20,000 people.
- Return boats leave Haad Rin pier every hour from 0:00 to 6:00, so a group can agree to meet at the pier at a set hour instead of searching the beach.
- Each person gets their own ticket badge at Bangrak pier and needs it to board the boat back, so nobody should carry badges for others.
- One booking can cover the whole group, with pickup from any hotel or villa on Koh Samui and cash payment in Thai baht at the pier, no prepayment.
The way a full moon party group stays together is simple: agree one meeting point, one meeting time and one plan for the boat back before you step onto the beach, and do not rely on phones. Everything else is a bonus.
Picture it: it is 1 am, you turn around from the bucket stall and the five people you came with have become 20,000 strangers in neon. That moment happens to almost every group. The ones who have a plan laugh about it ten minutes later; the ones who do not spend an hour shouting names over a sound system.
How should a full moon party group plan the night?
Make the plan on Koh Samui, sober, in daylight, not on the sand at midnight. Ten minutes over lunch saves a lot of drama later.
The group plan needs only a few answers, and everyone should know them, not just the organiser:
- Meeting point. One fixed place on the beach, easy to find drunk and in the dark.
- Meeting times. Two or three set check-in times through the night.
- Way home. Who goes back on which boat, and the rule for anyone missing.
- Money. Who pays what at the pier, so there is no counting cash at the boat.
- Buddy pairs. Nobody walks off alone, ever, especially not to the sea or the toilets.
Write the meeting point and the pier name in everyone's phone notes and, honestly, on a bit of paper in a pocket. A dead phone is the most common reason people get lost. If this is your first party, our guide for first-timers gives the bigger picture of the night.
How do you book one transfer for the whole group?
You can make one booking for the whole group on the Full Moon Party transfer page, with the number of people and one pickup time. Booking is free, and everyone pays in cash in Thai baht at the pier on the day, with no prepayment.
The price is per person: ฿890 one way or ฿1290 round trip (New Year party ฿1190 / ฿1490). The minivan picks up from any area of Koh Samui, so if your group is spread over two hotels, mention both in the booking.
My honest advice: book the round trip for everyone, even the friend who says he will "probably stay on Phangan". Plans change at 3 am, and with a round trip there is a boat for him too. With a one way ticket you arrange the way back yourself.
A few group booking habits that work:
- One person books, but everyone gets a screenshot of the booking and the pickup time.
- Each person brings their own cash for the transfer, the 200 THB entrance and drinks.
- Be in the lobby together at the start of the pickup window, not in three rooms.
- If someone drops out, there is nothing to refund, but tell us through the contact form so the driver does not wait.
Once the plan is clear, the transfer from Koh Samui is the easy part: one minivan, one boat, and a return boat whenever you are ready.
Staying on Koh Samui? Hotel pickup, speedboat from Bangrak pier to Haad Rin and boats back every hour from 0:00 to 6:00. One way ฿890, round trip ฿1290, free booking, pay cash at the pier.
Book your transferWhere should a group meet on Haad Rin beach?
Choose a meeting point that is big, lit and fixed, and that you have all seen with your own eyes on arrival. "By the fire show" or "near the DJ" is useless: those move, and there are many of them.
The best meeting points are landmarks you can walk to from the road or the sea: the main beach entrance where you paid, a big lit sign, a particular stall you can describe. Walk to it together as soon as you arrive, look around, and say it out loud: "here, at 11, at 2, and at 4".
Set check-in times, not "text me". On a party night the mobile network is overloaded, messages arrive late or not at all, and calls do not work over the music. A set time means people come to the spot even if no message gets through.
| Meeting point idea | Good | Problem |
|---|---|---|
| Beach entrance where you paid 200 THB | Everyone passed it, easy to find from the street | Very crowded around midnight |
| A big lit or burning sign | Visible from far away | Some look alike, agree which one |
| A spot by the water line, near the end of the beach | Quieter, you can hear each other | Dark, easy to walk past |
| Haad Rin pier | Fixed, it is where the boats leave | A few minutes walk from the party |
| "Near the DJ" or "by the fire show" | Nothing | They move and there are many |
Why should the whole group wear matching neon paint?
Because it works. Matching paint or the same colour of top makes your friends easy to spot in a crowd where everyone is glowing, and it gives the group a bit of a team feeling.
Pick something unusual: everyone has a neon smiley on their cheek, so choose one colour and a simple pattern, say orange stripes on both arms. A light-up necklace or bunny ears on the tallest friend also helps; people look for them over the heads of the crowd.
Do the paint before you leave or at the stalls in Haad Rin village on the way in. For outfits and what to bring, read what to wear and bring to the Full Moon Party.
How do you keep phones alive all night?
Charge every phone to 100% before pickup, bring at least one small power bank for the group, and switch phones to low power mode on the boat. By 3 am a phone used for videos all evening is usually dead, and that is exactly when you need it for finding people.
Do not take photos with the screen at full brightness for hours, and do not stream music. Keep phones in waterproof pouches: drinks spill, people end up in the sea, and the speedboat sends spray over the side on most nights.
One more trick: share live location with each other on Koh Samui, while the signal is good. It will not always update on the crowded beach, but the last known point is still useful.
Can a group split up by music taste?
Yes, and it is often the right call. Every bar along the beach has its own sound system and style, from EDM, trance and techno to drum and bass, reggae and hip hop, and five friends rarely love the same one all night.
Split into pairs or small groups, never singles, and keep the check-in times. The pairs rule matters most for the sea, the fire shows and the toilets: those are the places where people get into trouble or get lost. For the honest version of the risks, read is the Full Moon Party safe.
Keep an eye on each other's pace too. Drinks in buckets are strong and go down fast, and the friend who disappears is very often the friend who drank the most in the first two hours. A simple group habit helps: one bottle of water for every bucket, and anyone who is clearly done gets walked to the pier by a buddy, not left on the sand to "rest for a bit".
If one friend clearly wants a different kind of night, or would rather skip the beach crowd, the other parties around the full moon week may suit them better than dragging along.
What to do if someone is missing at Haad Rin pier
Do not panic and do not all go back into the crowd. Return boats leave Haad Rin pier every hour from 0:00 to 6:00, so you have time: agree in advance that anyone who gets lost goes to the pier at the next full hour.
Each person gets their own ticket badge at Bangrak pier and shows it to board the boat back, so everyone should keep their own badge, not the organiser. That way nobody is stuck on Koh Phangan because the friend with all the badges left early. On Koh Samui you are put on the transfer list and a minivan takes you back to your hotel.
Waiting at the pier at 4 am is not glamorous. You sit with tired strangers, someone is asleep on a bag, and the friend you are waiting for is probably eating noodles in the village with no idea what time it is. That is normal; give it one boat before you start to worry.
A simple rule for the pier at 4 am:
- Wait for the missing person through one boat, then send two people to the meeting point on the beach while the rest wait at the pier.
- Nobody searches alone, and nobody goes back to the beach without telling the others.
- If someone is ready to sleep, let them take the next boat with a buddy; they do not need to wait for the whole group.
- Agree that the last check-in is well before the 6:00 boat, not at it.

Questions and answers
Do we all have to come back on the same boat?
No. Return boats leave Haad Rin pier every hour from 0:00 to 6:00, and each person boards with their own ticket badge. Tired friends can go back early with a buddy while the rest stay on.
Can our group be picked up from different hotels?
Pickup is from any hotel or villa in any area of Koh Samui, including Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut, Maenam, Bangrak, Choeng Mon and Nathon. Mention the hotels in the booking form so the driver knows where to go.
Do we need to pay for the whole group online?
No. Booking is free and there is no prepayment. Each person pays in cash in Thai baht at the pier on the day, ฿890 one way or ฿1290 round trip.
What if one person in the group cancels at the last minute?
There is no prepayment, so there is nothing to refund. Let us know through the contact form so nobody waits at the hotel for a missing guest.
Is it better to go as a big group or a small one?
Small groups of two to six are much easier on a beach this crowded. With a bigger group, split into fixed pairs or small teams from the start, each with the same meeting point and times.
Should one person hold everyone's cash and badges?
No. If that person gets lost or leaves early, everybody is stuck. Each person should carry their own cash, their own ticket badge and a note with the meeting point.
Does the group need to buy entrance tickets online?
No. The entrance fee is 200 THB per person, paid in cash at the beach, and there are no official online entry tickets. Bring small notes so the group gets through the entrance quickly.
