When is the Full Moon Party?
The party happens every month on the night of the full moon. If the full moon falls on an important Buddhist holiday, the party moves a day or two. There is also a special party on New Year's Eve. You do not need a lunar calendar: see all Full Moon Party dates for 2026-2027.
Where is it?
On Haad Rin Beach, on the south-east tip of Koh Phangan island in Surat Thani province, Thailand. Koh Phangan is in the Gulf of Thailand, next to Koh Samui. Haad Rin is a white sand beach with bars and dance floors along the whole shore.
What time does it start?
Bars along the beach are open and music plays from the afternoon. The real party starts when it gets dark, around 7 pm, and goes on until sunrise. Many people arrive during the day to walk around the cafes and restaurants and hang out on the beach before the night.
Is the Full Moon Party free?
Almost: entry costs 200 baht (about 6 USD), paid in cash at the beach. The money goes to cleaning the beach after the party. More about tickets and costs.
How to get to Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan has no airport. From Bangkok there are three ways:
- Plane - the fastest: fly to Koh Samui, there are many flights from Bangkok every day.
- Train - comfortable: take the train to Surat Thani, then a bus and a ferry to the islands.
- Bus - the cheapest, but the longest: buses go from Bangkok to the piers for Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.
How to get to the Full Moon Party from Koh Samui
Book a transfer on our website. At the time you choose, a minivan picks you up at your hotel and takes you to Bangrak pier, and a speedboat brings you to Haad Rin in 20-30 minutes. Pickups run from midday until late evening.
When you want to go back, walk to Haad Rin pier and take the next speedboat: boats leave every hour from 0:00 to 6:00, and a minivan drives you from the pier on Koh Samui to your hotel.
