Full Moon Party FAQ
The Full Moon Party is an all-night beach party on Haad Rin Beach on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand, held every month around the full moon. It started in the 1980s, when travellers gathered on Haad Rin to watch the full moon, and grew into one of the most famous parties in the world.
A regular party draws around 20,000 people, and the New Year party up to 40,000.
Entry costs 200 Thai baht (about 6 USD), paid in cash at the gates to Haad Rin Beach on the night. There are no online entry tickets. The money goes towards maintenance and cleaning up the beach. More about tickets and costs.
On Haad Rin Beach, on the south-east tip of Koh Phangan island (Surat Thani province) in the Gulf of Thailand. The nearest big island is Koh Samui.
The Full Moon Party happens on the night of the full moon. If the full moon falls on a Buddhist holiday, the party moves to another night. There is also a special party on New Year's Eve. See all Full Moon Party dates for 2026-2027.
Bars along Haad Rin Beach are open and music plays from the afternoon, and some dance floors are busy while it is still light. The real party starts when it gets dark, around 7 pm, and goes on until sunrise, about 7 am.
Many people come during the day: walk around the cafes and restaurants, hang out on the beach and stay for the night. Our transfers from Koh Samui leave from midday, so you can choose when to arrive.
The main music is EDM, but there are many bars and stages along the beach playing everything from R&B, hip hop and pop to house, techno and drum and bass.
Wear closed shoes, not flip-flops: there can be broken glass on the beach. Take only the cash you need for the night (entry, drinks and transport) - ATMs on the island often run out around the full moon.

Regular ferries from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan stop running in the early evening, so the easiest way is a night speedboat transfer. We pick you up by minivan at your hotel or villa in any area of Koh Samui and take you to Bangrak pier; the speedboat reaches Haad Rin in 20-30 minutes. Yes. Ferries do not run at night, but transfer speedboats go from Haad Rin pier back to Koh Samui every hour from 0:00 to 6:00.
